Default Tool Thread?

I really don't want to join another forum, and I do believe many here would enjoy a "new tool," thread, or just a tool thread. There are tools threads out there and they get a lot of usage. Why have members go somewhere else when for the most part they are working on jags. From the person that does an oil change or full time mechanics. After all who doesn't like tools? I would start one, I'm not sure where though. I am a full-time user in the XJ40 club here. I'm going to start one in there, if you mods could find a home for it that all users could see that would be great. If not the "Higher-Class" Jag owners will have to stop by and visit us in the XJ40 world.

Sounds like a good idea, who doesn't like to boast about their tools?

Maybe it could go in the General Tech area with a link in each sections FAQs.

It would be good to see some of the special tools people have made to overcome various problems.

How could you ever think I, with my "higher class" XK8, would sink so low as to visit the lowly XJ40 world? I mean COME ON here! An XJ40 is barely a Jag... it's more of a car produced by Jaguar to generate revenue for the XJS and later my XK8.

I'm totally kidding. I would've loved an XJ40 if the local ones weren't falling apart at the seems.

That's a good idea though for a thread. Maybe I can learn a thing or two about tools (I can barely use scissors properly).

Great idea. We could share info about our favorite and/or most useful tools, clever and money saving substitions, etc.

For instance, THIS is probably the most useful tool in MY toolbox :-)

Nice thread. This tool I use quite a bit since apparently I have butter fingers. It has saved me from having to rip apart half of my engine after dropping a bolt or nut. Another that I love is my air compressor. I use it for anything from its basic removing wheels fast with the impact gun to using the air gun to dry those little spots that hold water till after everything is dry and you drive away and have water dripped down everywhere.

One more are these guys for removing the fuel filter clips to change the fuel filter quick and problem free. I change my fuel filter every other oil change cause its only a 10 minute job added to my oil change and the filter is 10 bucks.

I'll happily Sticky a Tools thread over in the Gen Tech help.

But each tool used MUST include a description of it's use, whether it is a DIY jobbie, a roundabout solution, or an expensive once in a lifetime use scenario.

People need to understand what is hoped to be achieved through the use of such a tool. Maybe then, they will also have more understanding as to why some things seem to be expensive.

Start the thread, and I will give details of my own DIY pressurized brake bleeding system, which so far has worked 100% for me over the years, and costs practically nothing.

Excellent idea MrT and thanks for posting it up. Sounds like Richard already has this in hand, so all's good.

I'll be checking in as often as possible to see whats on offer. If memory serves there is one very deserving "tool" that someone made up to do the chain tensioners job?
Thats gotta be added
