Default Identity of Jaguar Mascot

JAGUAR CROSBY MASCOT

Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure which forum I should post this question, but I know MKV models sometimes had the Version 1 example of the Crosby mascot located on the radiator cap. I'm hoping someone may be able to identify the mascot which recently came into my possession. Unlike almost all that I've seen it hasn't got the usual 'pimples' associated with Mazak or 'Pot Metal' which leads me to believe it may be made of brass, bronze or some other
material. It's quite light compared to my Jaguar MK2 mascot, at 272 grammes. It was quite discoloured/tarnished when I first got it, similar to how silver or silver plates goes when left. However, the shine came back very quickly when I used a small amount of chrome cleaner. Any suggestions anyone ?? Thanks

We see no markings in your pics. No Markings would suggest a knock off. There were many but that type of mascot was first offered in the second SPC for the MkV.

Thank you for your observations/comments. I'm as certain as I can be that it's not a 'knock-off'' - it was in the same family for 40 years plus. With regards markings, as far as I'm aware these types never had any (I stand to be
corrected). I know the earlier Desmo cats did but in my research I've never come across stamps/markings for the Crosby ?? It's only in recent years that prices for these items have soared so I doubt it would have been a
profitable excercise to create copies 40 odd plus years ago ?? Further comments welcome.

Since it is lighter, is it of the same dimensions or smaller? Mark Xs had smaller mascots.

Good Evening Scout (Or Good Afternoon),

This is the larger sized mascot (roughly same size as the MK2 Jaguar version BUT with the crouching back legs), which dates it to pre-1955. I know these 'Crosby' mascots were fitted to MK 5's radiator caps (no other models as far as I am aware). The MK10 cars, as you are probably aware, had a much smaller mascot with an elongated chrome base. Thank you for your interest. (I've recently sold this rare item to a fellow enthusiast by the way).
