As the 2.4 litre engine is a "cut-down" 3.4 litre block, and the 3.8 litre is a bored out and linered 3.4 litre block, it should fit perfectly, but it probably won't take the triple cars that the Mark 10 had as the engine bay is a lot smaller on the Mark 2 bodies.
Don't forget the back axle ratio may not suit the larger engine revs wise.

You bought an engine that has been sitting for 30 years. If I was you I would put a boriscope down the spark plug holes and check out the cylinders. I would also want to find out why every other cylinders compression is in the 130"s and the rest are in the 170's. If the valves are sticking or the rings are broken you could make a big mess of the engine quickly.

How are you shipping it from the west coast to the east coast? If you don't mind me asking what does that cost?
Fraser is correct re carb fitment - the large aluminum air box will foul the inner fender at the points noted. The top edge will be just below and under the upper fender, so the inner fender needs to be opened up all the way to the top if you want to retain this intake. You'll also need some throttle linkage as I recall. It looks like you have some compression variances approaching 30% which seems high - perhaps someone who knows these motors will comment. Good luck with the project - I installed a straight port head on a Mark 2 a few decades back and it worked well.
The front carb is a carb just as the rear and middle carb's are. They all do the same thing which is throw gallons of fuel and air in to the plenum chamber which divides the mixture to the six cylinders.
There might be a starting carb or to give it its correct name the Automatic Enrichment Device (AED) but this is small barrel with an electric solenoid attached. I think I am right in saying it is different on the 240 which had Solex carbs not SUs and had a manual choke set up. I think they changed back to SUs but retained the manual choke. Please correct me if I am wrong.
My 1968 240 has 2 SU HS6 AUD 256 manual choke carbs. The 3.8L I won is from a Mark X and has HD8's. My understanding is that a starting carb's jet is set up rich and is used in place of a choke. If you look carefully at the photos you will see a solenoid structure that is connected to a temp sensor that closes off the carb once it comes up to temp.
You are right Jim that is the AED which is connected to the front carb and takes its fuel feed from the front carbs float bowl but all three carbs are set up the same and the AED does not have any influence over the working of the front carb. My S Type has two HD6 carbs and the AED which I have converted so I can switch it on and off from the cockpit rather than relying on the sometimes unreliable Otter switch.
Your compression problems might be a sticking valve but unlikely or you would have no or very little compression. It might be coked up valve seats which are leaking and would benefit from a decoke and valve seat re grind (you do not need hardened valve seats fitted as the XK engines all had them fitted from new. Just in case your local engine builder tries to pull a fast and expensive one on you) or if the engine has been sat for a long time it could be sticking piston rings and a good soaking with diesel down the bores might cure that.

You just don't realize how heavy the XK engine is until you have to pick it out of the engine bay or in this situation ship it. My complete Lotus seven only weighed 1200lbs (550kilos) with half a tank of fuel.
It has survived the trip from Oregon in one piece. A little over a week in transit to New Jersey. Now I have to decide what to do with it next. Shops around here are charging $125/hr! I can work cheaper than that.

That shipping cost was a lot lower than I would expect. Was the engine shipped from a resident to a resident, shop to a terminal or terminal to terminal? A little details of the shipping would be helpful. I would have expected the shipping to cost 2 to 3 times what you paid.
I was not interested in the auto trans so he gave me a $400 credit, and made shipping easier. I hope to put a 5 speed on it.
The pick up address was an equipment company and the destination was a local shop. After delivery they ask for a review at I gave a positive one. Then they hit me with $100 surcharge saying the pickup address was residential! I think I'm gonna stop doing reviews.

Did you google the address that the motor was picked up from and see if it was a residential address? That's one of the reasons that I don't give a review for a week or two after I have work done around the house, ebay auctions etc.
Yes, On Google Maps it's a heavy equipment business! I disputed the charge. I'm not holding my breath.
The shop I shipped the engine to has a number of ford engines with Tremtec T-5's attached but I know you need a bell housing, adapter plate and rear mounts ect. I was looking at the kits from The Driven Man, I wonder if they would sell the kits minus the tranny?
