Default 340 Dash Top Removal

I've read that the dash top on a Mark 2 can be removed by taking out 4 bolts that fit underneath the front edge of dash. Is this correct? If so what holds the forward section of dash down?
Thanks

There are no bolts holding the upper dash rail on a MK2. Only 2 nuts hold it on to support brackets which holds the rail firmly in a horizontal position.
Go under the upper rail and 5 inches in from each end you will find each nut.
Undo those nuts a few turns, (you don't have to take them right off) and the rail can be slid back and off the mounts which are slotted.
You might have to adjust the steering wheel as far back as it will go to get clearance.
There are also wires running to the light in the centre of the upper rail which need to be disconnected

The S Type was a more modern design. It had four nuts.

Thanks. My car is a 1967 340. It's not here at the moment or I'd look myself but will I find 2 nuts to loosen or 4? Again what keeps the forward edge in place?

2 nuts, like in post #3 from Glyn.
You need a 7/16 open end wrench.

Nothing! It just sits on top of the facias and is held down by the two nuts. Very basic design so don't over think it.
