Default Another eBay Sale

1961 Jaguar Other Mark 2 Saloon | eBay

Lots of rust bubbles and bondo...
It has some odd things going on with it, the description says rare 4 speed with OD, but on the dash there is the intermediate speed hold switch which was for an automatic transmission.
A possible conversion I suspect and maybe that switch now controls the over drive ???

The steel heater pipes have also been bypassed with a back yard mechanics solution.
It looks in good restorable condition, but there are no photos of the undercarriage.

The front wheel arch line is wrong, there rear section is at 90 degrees to the rocker panel.
I betting someone fabricated that mess.

The drivers bottom door is bowing out from bondo and rust.

Could be a nice car at the right price- but yep- it needs a lot of body work! At lease it runs, which is better than most that come up on Ebay

All 4 doors are curled at the bottom corners. The right front fender wheel arch leaves a shadow to the rear next to wheel, fender punched out. Needs a lot of work, straightening someone else's fixes.

You guys didn't read the description ---

"
Finished in classic Old English White, the car’s paint is in good order but there are minor blemishes visible during a close-up inspection such as rock chips, etc. The car’s windows are intact and clear and otherwise in good shape. The car’s lights are in very good shape, crack- and haze-free and its bumpers are in decent shape after all these years. This cat rolls on Goodyear Vector tires, size 195/75R15, surrounding steel wheels topped by Jaguar hubcaps that display some patina after all these years. In addition, some of the exterior trim pieces show blemishing but the body panels are all straight.

The previous owner, out of Louisville Kentucky, in September 2000, replaced brake cylinder; in October 2001, replaced front shocks, lubricated timing chain and serviced transmission; in April 2002, replaced the front brake pads and sway bar links; in January 2005, replaced rear springs, flushed transmission fluid, made heat shield for oil; in December 2006, the exhaust manifolds were replaced and new exhaust added from manifolds back; in 2008, the engine cylinder head was overhauled; in August 2009, replaced oil filter and both valve cover gaskets; and repaired the charging system, replaced front and rear brake hoses in June 2012; in 2013, the silicone fluid and disc brakes were replaced; sometime in 2014, the car’s clutch received an overhaul;
"

Did he lubricate the timing chain because he ran the car with no oil ?!!!!

This car is a mess, it's asking price on their website is $19,900 !!!!

The is rust in the cills, bottom of the A posts, floor, all doors are gone, all wings are bubbling, they even sprayed the tire valves with the wheels !!!!! The bonnet doesn't line up with the body at the front above the grill, where do you stop ?

They have left the steering cowl with R N D L R still in place when it was converted from Auto, the electrics are lashed up, etc. etc. I wouldn't pay what it's going for now at $6500 USD

If you look down the Ad on ebay there are loads of pictures, someone is going to get stung here, they say sold as seen, but the description is mis-representative, if anyone on here is bidding please, go see the car, as Jagfixer says "Needs a lot of work, straightening someone else's mess" I fear that may be an understatement.

I read some of the description, I stopped after I read that the wood has been restored.
Most of it is an out-right lie.
The photos tell you everything, I don't know who they're trying to fool by lying in the description ?

Absolutely Jeff, whoever buys that car based on that description will not be happy !

The seller should be reported for such a misleading advert, I hope they don't get away with pulling the wool over someone's eyes, made me laugh that the reserve isn't met !

They have to be trying a fast one, it makes me so damn cross !

Yes indeed, description is deceptive & misleading.

I think used car salesmen have now just moved to the top of the list of "The World's Most Untrustworthy Professionals", just pipping politicians!

The alternative fact is that the doors are very solid.

Much the same as my doors were, at the start. Not a simple matter of repairing the skins, the base of the door frames are certainly history.

Guess they were just feeling out the bottom of the market.
