Electronic Distributor upgrade?
Hi All,
Now that I have an understanding of how the original distributor on the MK2 works, I was wondering if anyone has upgraded to an electronic distributor? Here's a link to the product with a brief description: https://www.sngbarratt.com/us/#!/Eng...9-7f1ebfe3f8fc
Thank you.
Rob

Here's a thread here over at the RR forum, note my post.
Heat seems to kill them in general.
You may contact 123 ignition directly and ask them where the actual parts are from and quality control.
You may get an honest answer or one read from a script.
Personally I've never dealt with them, but they seem more reputable then most.
Note that if your old distributor has never been rebuilt, I'm sure the bushing is quite worn.
Try and move the rotor shaft from side to side, there should be no play.
And even if there is, keep in mind for a single points system like in our Jags, it's not that critical that it be perfect.

Is heat really an issue with electronic distributors as a rule, or is it that certain distributors are less resistant to heat?
I have a 123 in my car and it runs wonderfully for awhile, but have been chasing an issue with heat soak, the car's running condition deteriorates over the course of the day... but then the next morning on cold start back to wonderful running.
The distributor seems to be fine though, as I can open the app and see the dashboard and everything looks normal.

Why not install the old distributor and see if it happens, if it does the same thing, it may a fuel issue or more then likely a coil problem.
Are your running the right coil ?
Coils can work fine and when they heat up, they can become intermittent, even new coils.
Personally I have points in both my Jag and Bentley, there not that unreliable.
I think all this electronic ignition aftermarket stuff is for the birds.
I was stranded with a Lumenition unit with my Bentley, so I've had enough.
They may work great for a while, but they will fail eventually.
If they would just have some quality control.
The old factory electronic unit in my Mazda B2200 is over 30 years old, but it's Japanese.
My 88 one which is gone now (frame rotted out) had over 500k on it, never touched the distributor, other then oiling the centrifugal weights.
