Default Intermittent horn problems Mk2 Jaguar

Hello all, been messing around with my Mk2 Jaguar horn, which is to say the least temperamental.
Then i had a thought, thinking out the box so to speak.
Modern cars have keyless entry etc, why don’t i try and find a bluetooth horn switch.
For about 20 pounds ive found what i hope will be something I’m able to fettle to fit in centre boss of steering wheel so keeping the look, then a relay pack which operates horn.
The Jaguar repair kit for the steering column is around about 70 pounds and of course is a pain to install especially if you have an Automatic like i do.
For the price I’m going to give it a go I will keep you updated on how it went, Kit should arrive around about end of May.

That sounds like a nice idea. I'm all for a discreet use of electronics in our old cars.

Intermittent - If the horns sometimes don't work, the brush connection on the column may need adjustment. If they sound when they aren't intended to, the rod inside the column is touching ground, I think it can be insulated with a sleeve.

i had a horn problem too. but it wasn't because of the switch, as i was getting power down to the horns, at least i was according to my multimeter. so i bought a couple, one low pitch, one high pitch and installed them. problem gone. there are inexpensive plastic ones and expensive metal ones.

i disassembled the old horns and found them to be very corroded inside. were they salvageable? maybe, but i didn't try.

Hi Peter
The switch has arrived I've taken it apart quite a small board with button , led and key for style battery.
The receiver with relay in it is i fear to small for Jag twin horns but I'm sure it would coupe with a 30 amp SRB relay.
I will post some photos when I get a chance, fingers crossed.

Cheers Simon

Why not just fix the original horn? Mine works but that said in 12 years I have only used it to test that it works. If you have the time to use a horn in any situation, you had time to avoid putting yourself in the situation that would required the use of a horn. Just my opinion.

Rob, The MoT tester trys it, so it's used once a year.

To be honest I probably have never needed to use the horns, but unfortunately it has to work for CT control technic or MOT in uk !

When I rebuilt my car back in 2016 I took it in for its UK MOT for a couple of years when the horn had to work for the test but the car is actually exempt the test now being Historic so I don't bother now. The car is properly maintained and serviced and if anything needs replacing it is done instantly but the horn has always worked. I sometimes replace things like rubber bushes because I want to rather than have to.

can you hardwire that module to a 5VDC voltage regulator to avoid changing the battery?

Default Horn switch

Hi It's 12 volt but I've decided to run the horns through an SRB 30 amp relay so the module operates the relay, less load on It's internal relay
cheers Simon
