Front suspension/Engine Removal
Evening Jon,
I hope you are well and your jag is on the road?!
I've had some good progress on the mk2, engine bay is stripped and front subframe has been removed. I used your method of jacking the car high on axle stands then lowering the subframe on the jack..
When removing the engine, could I jack under the sump? Remove engine mounts then lower down?! Without using an engine hoist?!
I've had two quotes for engine rebuild, one for 12k and other for 6k!!
Thanks again.
Grant

Hi Grant,
unfortunately work has got in the way the last few months so progress has been very slow.
You can put a jack under the sump, but with the gearbox attached the centre is in an awkward place, you need to put a piece of 4 by 2 on top of the jack and support the engine as you lower it as it is obviously top heavy, I have done this single handed, but it is a little precarious on your own. If you can get a helping hand it will make it a lot easier. With the engine crane it is easy to support the top of the engine.
You also have to pull the engine out while it is teetering on the jack, so yes it is possible, but not simple with just a jack.

When I have done this I have dropped the car and engine down so that the engine sits on a trolley, I then unbolt the engine mounts, lift the body up with a jack and leave the engine on the floor.
Its not quite as easy to fit it this way and I use an engine hoist to lift it up to get it in.
