if they were removed from a LHD car, then they are LHD.

I don't know how they are different, but I understand they are.

Maybe the mount screws are different, but really, the lights would be pointed to get the widest field of vision, what difference would it make if someone was driving on the left or right ?

Or maybe he faceting is different ???

Not true. My DB4 was a LHD US model car originally. Since it came with incorrect yellow bulbs and Euro style parking light lenses, it's unclear if the headlamps themselves were original to the car.

My understanding is that (some?) Lucas European 700 headlamps had "right hand drive" in the glass, but some were distinctly aimed left/right vs straight ahead (LHD).

These headlamps are listed on eBay (item #254427323875) in case anyone wants to inspect the photos for a definitive LHD/RHD assessment.

There should be a marking on the lens (usually an arrow or L or R in the numbering or both) as to whether they are designed with lenses that dip to the left or dip to the right.

Example for RHD car. (dips to the left) ~ (a LHD car requires lights with lenses that dip to the right.)

Go back and look at photos in post #1...no such arrow. Or look at more detailed photos in my eBay listing...https://www.ebay.com/itm/254427323875...and you'll see no arrows.

The faceting in the lamp with no arrows in post 7 is symmetrical, while the one with the arrow in post 24 isn't.

I contacted a used parts seller in Australia for the finishers. He told me he can sell me everything except the lamps because they are not allowed to sell RHD headlamps to US customers, so there must be an obvious difference to where the government has become involved with the sale of headlamps.

Glynn, my lamps do not have a L or R anywhere on the glass. The only way to find out is to install them and see what they do on high beam or dipped. Fortunately I don't have to cut any wires so if they don't work, back to the 5.25" original sealed beams.

I am aware of 7" headlamps sold on eBay but I don't like the "modern" look of those. They look "pimped". I want the period-correct 7" lamps.

Link does not work. Found your eBay ad. The fact that they are marked Lucas "European" makes me believe that they are dip to the right.. Inadequate resolution in pics above.

The difference could be purely in the part number and only displayed on the packaging. (I've shown a typical Lucas example) Sometimes in black on rear of reflector.

What I'm explaining is the difference in dual filament dipping lamps. Lights for RHD cars dip to the left and LHD car requires lights with lenses that dip to the right.

The difference is all in the lense facing profiles.

A single filament fog light etc. requires no dipping consideration. Only a direct ahead beam.

Jose, See above. If you can find no marking then trial & error is one way of checking. Jolly Rogers Motors in the US sells 7" Lucas H4 & European lights with a variety of bulbs that dip to the left & dip to the right. i.e. both for Continental Europe, & US ~ and for UK, SA Australia,Japan HK, Singapore etc. They stock both usually.

My RHD South African car with H4's that dip to the left. Supplied by Roger's
