Mk2 or Mk IX?
Hi all, I'm new here and on the hunt for a vintage Jaguar. I'm looking at two right now, both 1961 vehicles.
I wondered, besides aesthetics, if there were any advantages either way between a 1961 Mk2 and Mk IX?
I'm asking in terms of reliability and drivability. Thanks in advance!

Who cares about drivability, the Mark 9 looks like a small Bentley _ I have a thing for Bentley's though.

It just doesn't get any classier !
The car was made for a two tone colour scheme.
With out checking, the engine, I believe, is the typical 3.4 litre DOC engine, the same as the Mk 2, although the MK2's also had the 3.8, but the 3.4 was the sweet spot for the Jag 6 cylinders.

Yes...
My favorite is the copper/bronze one at the top and the black one with white sides and red wheels.
The Mark 2 is a beautiful design, but the Mark 9 is the perfect example of English coach work at its finest. In my opinion...

Depends on the "look" you are after. To me the IX is a bit of a land yacht. I'm partial to the MK2, but then again that's what I own. I like the rally car look of the MK2. That's what I'm chasing with my build.
Ah yes, but what a gorgeous land yacht !
When you say land yacht a hideous Chrysler New-Porker out of the 70's comes to mind.

the earlier MK-8 is even nicer than the 9. Adapting a modern GM engine and transmission is no big deal, makes for a nice gas guzzler with style. It is considered a Big Saloon.
the MK-2 is considered a "Small Saloon".
