This is my '66 S-Type Automatic with factory-fitted Webasto Sunroof (restored),and wire wheels added. The motor was completely re-built about 9 years ago. I have had the carpets replaced with new Wilton carpet and the wood completely re-built and re-veneered..

Thanks for your comments. re the engine breather cover, I have no idea. I am not mechanical at all and so "ignorance has been bliss" in my case. Is it affecting the performance at all? Tell me what to do and I shall have it rectified.

 

How it is in the photo it looks like the coil might catch the mechanical fan? It should be rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise when looking at the front of the engine.

yes the breather tube should be at the left when looking at the engine at the front. oriented like in the photo below.

I take it you have the original air cleaner assembly?

The coil mounts at the top front on a bracket and stub over the center of the round cover shown in the picture.

Rubber elbows still to be fitted to breather pipe.

 

I have just looked at my motor and you are quite correct of course. The breather tube is sited correctly now on my motor. I guess after that pic was taken prior to installation they realised (yes - in New Zealand we spell it with an "s" and not a "z") their error. All is good. Phew! and many thanks.

I have Jaguar S-type 1966 with an MK2 front style.
It's a real S-type with all matching number for car, engine,body and gearbox.
It's impossible to see and detect any trace or modification on the body and chassis
Would you have an idea where this car has been produced ?

Where the car was produced? Well, it was built at Browns Lane, Coventry, England for almost all markets. For South Africa and Mexico, local governmental regulations required a certain percentage of the car materials had to be locally sourced, so Jaguar Coventry supplied a “kit”, that is, an incomplete car to be finished with local materials and workmanship. Glyn can comment further on the South African Jaguars.

 

In response to sov211 (Prof. Gregory). SA produced cars.

All material for seats, rooflinings & carpets were locally produced (but to UK pattern with roll for S type etc). Attractive brush stroke headiining/rooflining and many with woven pattern seat centres more prominent than Daimlers' perforations. That is why I restored my car to British standards right down to the cheap Shelley jack. Those old materials are no longer available. Our Local Content program was by that time 54% by weight (later changed to value). Lyons did a deal with government that aged blank blocks & heads etc. were sent to SA. We did all the machining & assembly of engines on the latest state of the art machinery for the era paid for by the SA Taxpayer. Our engines were far more accurate than those out of Browns Lane that were built with ancient equipment, much from the Daimler buy-out & Standard.
Many other parts were made here like springs, batteries, tropical radiators by Silverton etc.etc. Our bodies were built over bucks provided by Browns Lane and better in fit than those from Pressed Steel.


My car now to UK spec.


Local Hydraulic jack provided in a leather sleeve more suitable for our conditions.
