Default Steering, inner tie rod replacement.

Still struggling with my old s-type, I am replacing most of the things that wear out in the front suspension and steering now.
Got quite a lot of play in the steering and I was going to replace the inner tie rod (I believe this is the right term?).

Problem is that I bought a upgraded tie rod pin and bush.

Then I started to disassemble the old worn one and perhaps that was a bit hasted.. The new tie rod pin and bush is not even close to fit, see the pictures.
Has I been mistaken and bought a part for something else or is there different types of steering?

Thanks!

did you get those from XKs Unltd. by any chance?

I did too, and had to take them to a machine shop to get them pressed, and of course, XKs WILL NOT TELL YOU THAT.

No, those are not the Tie Rods, the Tie Rods will be on the ends. If I remember correctly these are called "idlers".

My advice? do not install them, try to get the original type.

The correct part no is C17099, called pin and bush for ends of center tie rod.

But if you look at D Manners Jaguar Partno_133101*_CENTRE TIE ROD BUSH MK2/V8/420/S_David Manners Group the picture is completely different to SNG, and the part from DG Manners looks like it would be correct.

SNG list the part as a replacement aftermarket part, you need to take this up with SNG and find out why they are supplying the wrong part.

I have just checked the MK2 parts book to see if there is a difference, but the same part no for S Ty[e and Mk2.

Hi, I got them from sngbarratt but it is probably the same thing. Are they supposted to be in that position?
How where they pressed? I cannot understand how they would fit unless I machine a bushing/sleeve.

Thanks! I will contact SNG.
SNG even has the same part as D Manners, but I ordered the uprated part for twice the price as SNG suggested. Irritating.

Having seen your pictures of the dismantled part, there is no way the part from SNG will fit, the part pictured on D Manners site for the same part No looks like it will fit.

The part that would press in would be the shoulder at the opposite end to the thread looking at the pictures.

I got a reply from sngbarrat today:

Good Morning

The pin and bush is no longer available for your arm. You need to make a sleeve and weld it into the arm to accept the new pin.
We can do this in our workshop, we would need you to send us your arm and the pin that has been supplied. It would cost £40.00 per arm.

Kind Regards

I think £40 is bit much and I have access to a machine shop so I will machine sleeves and press and weld them to the arm, then I will press the uprated pin to the sleeve. A bit more work than I wanted but it shouldn´t take more than a day. Sngbarrat had to sleeves to sell but I rathermachine them myself I think.

frankly, I would let them do it, since they probably have done a few already.

Yeah I know but I don´t do things that way
I wouldn´t pay for shipping and the work, we have welders and hydraulic press and I am too cheap. I should buy the sleeve, that would be smart.

But I´m still not sure that this pin is made for this arm. Look at the attached pictures, the aftermarket pin is 6 mm shorter on the threaded side and 15 mm longer on the backside. Don´t know if there is enough clearance for the extra 15 mm?
