As I know little or nothing about grease, do any greases have solvents in them? If they do, I'd guess they should be avoided as they may consume the bush?

We make no greases with solvents in them.

Glyn, I wasn't thinking of the oil majors as I know their products are both well formulated and tested to death, more some of the so called 'specialist lubricant businesses' of which there seem to be many these days. Also, not so much chemicals used as solvents as hydrocarbon products that happen to have some solvent potential.

Considering the frequency oil and grease arises, we could do with a sticky with a list of suggested lubricants/lubricant types for various applications, especially for the less obvious ones.

I'll think about it. It could end up a nightmare unless you allow me the simplicity of Jaguar recommendations and Majors only.

If we had solvents present we would call it a spray or compound.

Knowing the effort that majors put into developing and testing their products, I would need a very good reason to put anything from any other manufacturer into one of my cars. When I joined my old company, the main (international) oil products laboratory had a staff of about 800. That was quite apart from the agrochemical and manufacturing and refining laboratories. In addition, there were national laboratories in the US, Japan, and Germany.
