Default 06 S-type no start

Hi, My name is Brandon. I bought an 06 Jaguar S type a while back. Put about 500 miles on it then I get the check engine light. ( BTW the car sat at this small dealer in marysville for about a year and I dont think they kept up with everything on it.) So i got this code: P0430: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2. I drove for maybe another 50 miles on it then one day i get up for work and it starts. Then within about 10 seconds, it went from normal idle then slowly and roughly shut down. I swapped out the fuel filter and air filter to start and either of those werent the problem. So i started digging deeper and found that one of my sensors appears to be fried or covered in what looks like corrosion. So obviously that had to be replaced. I couldnt find this part anywhere! Finally i called Jaguar and the said its a purge valve sensor and it will cost me about $150. So my ultimate question is: Can this be the reason for my no start? I can hear the fuel pumping through and the car cranks and tries to start but it just aint wanting to start. Any advice helps! Purge valve. Located right below air intake.

Welcome.

I have no answers,

The people in the S Type Tech Section will know, and a quick re-ask should sort things.

Welcome to the forum Brandon,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Hey there Brandon,

Could be a popped 02 sensor either before the catalytic converter or at it. There are 2 o2 sensors that speak to the ECM that will signal this error. Starting from the cheapest route of repair... I would look at o2 sensors first, then work outwards from there...

https://www.autocodes.com/p0430_jaguar.html

*edit* : Yes I realize its a Jag ... and there is no such thing as a cheap repair ... :P LOL *edit*

That gunked up purge sensor can't be helping things much either... perhaps that sensor can be cleaned? ( ask your Jag guys ) Some sensors can be reconditioned in a bath of isopropyl alcohol ( it evaporates after cleaning, and leaves no residue ) ... Some can't tho...

Just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head, more the way I would approach it.

Cheers! And welcome to the forum ( from one n00b to another :P )
