Hi folks,

I have been members of several jag lovers lists in the past;saloons XK and E-Types.
Now I have an XJS with an a/c problem. the blower motor runs constantly. I suspect there is a relay that is stuck, but I have no idea where it is, My experience with stuck relays is if you tap on it, it will unstick. Any ideas where the relay(s) might be and am I on the right track. Many thanks in advance.

Most commonly this occurs with the Delanair Mk III Climate Control, introduced 1987-ish and identifiable by the temp control knob have a "Pull for manual control" capability....which was lacking on the Delanair Mk II system

The relay could be stuck, or the Darlington transistor failed, or maybe both. Both items are located inside the blower motor assembly itself. Removal of the blower assemblies isn't exactly a pleasure cruise....but it's doable, obviously

Are there two separate a/c blowers? If so, it would seem to me that my problem is something that is common to both blowers. I am getting equal air flow from all vents. Can someone who has had the same problem talk to me or is that against the forum rules?

Yes, two blowers...but each with its own relay and circuit board (assuming you have the Mk III system)

If both blowers remain on at all times then an upstream control problem is plausible. If only one, then it's probably down to the circuit board for that individual blower.

As a fellow newbie, welcome! I can support Doug's comments. I had the same problem with my Daimler Double Six which has the same Delanair a/c. It was a long time ago and we had several other problems in the car to fix, so I don't remember exactly what we did to make the repair. I think that it was a transistor. I recall one thing that served as a short term way of avoiding a flat bettery when the blower continues running after you've turned the ignition off. With the blower turned to off, turn the ignition on again (without starting the engine) and then off and, with a bit of luck, the blower stops running.

 

Is there a fuse I can remove to disable the a/c until I figure out what to do? Also is there a jag-lovers list for XJSs like with saloons, etc?

If you'd tell us what year your XJS is and/or if it has the Mk II or Mk III Climate control it would help

1. I have already asked you to add vehicle details - twice and even offered to do this for you. The reason for this is the XJS had many different specifications over 21 years of production.

3. all members have the appropriate anonymity essential on a public forum. Asking for email addresses is not acceptable and posting your own is not advisable.
