Hi, I am new to jag ownership and I was hoping you guys would be able to tell me a little more about my car. It is a 1994 xj12. I have been around this beautiful xj40 my entire life and Ive always wanted to call it my own. The car belonged to my neighbor who had always told me that he was never going to sell the it. He was forced to sell it because of hard times, thankfully he gave me the opportunity to buy it. He was the original owner, he was a business executive at the Ford plant in highland Minnesota for most of his working career. As a part of his contract with ford he could lease any car produced or owned by ford for $1 for 4 years and he could choose a different one at the end of the 4 year period. Its actually a very long but interesting story as to how he was able to keep the car. Are the black taillights, and missing side markers normal? It has the wiring for the front side markers fastened behind the fender liner. The interior is 6 completely different colors. He said he was able to customize the car more extensively than the general public wouldve been able to but I would like your opinions. Any information you have on the car would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to post such a long message lol
I will get better photos when the annoying MN weather allows me to
VERY lucky you are, and that is a collectable classic, NO matter what anyone tells you.
Since it is getting near the LAST of the XJ40, lots of oddities appeared, even in our market.
The darker tail lights was standard, from memory???, and the interior is not that odd, as it is similar in contrast to my X300 cars, which followed the XJ40.
Side markers, its a market thing, and maybe at the time where the car was originally first tagged, they were not needed, dunno, we never got them at all.
The members in the XJ40 Tech Section will be better at answering than me, and I sense some jealousy forthcoming as well.
WELL DONE young man, look after and enjoy that beast for what it really is.
The V12 is a rare and desireable variant. Jaguar XJ40/XJ81 was available in a large range of paint and trim combinations and with a long list of options and I can't see anything unusual.
Paint code HEV = Jade Green and Trim Code HEZ = Parchment. Seats look normal for Sovereign specification (contrasting piping and individual rather than bench rear seats with picnic tables recessed into the front seats). Dark trim on the dash and door cappings with lighter on the lower dash bolsters and consoles is also normal as is the boxwood inlay on the door capping and dash veneer.

Well done. A superb version of the XJ and the best V12 engine version. I have a stock 6.0 in my race car it has 90,000 miles on it it is stock apart from the intake and exhaust. It has an after market ECU with a custom MAP and produces 330HP at the rear wheels. So probably 360 at the flywheel.
Thanks! I really appreciate the input on the car. I was unaware how close it was to the last xj40 until you pointed it out. I will definitely follow your recommendations. I love the v12, the power is unbelievably smooth and the exhaust sound is amazing (I built a custom exhaust). This is what falling in love must feel like haha.
On a a side note, my car needs inner tie rods. I cant seem to find a oem or high quality replacement part. Any advice on where to get parts from?
