Default 1997 Long Cat (X300)

Good folks;

Cheers! I landed a 1997 XJ6L from the 2nd owner. She had all records from her purchase from a local Rover/Jag dealer in 2000 to about late 2015 (I'm still entering all receipts in to a spreadsheet - over 140 records).

I've logged nearly 250 miles since last week after replacing the CPS (thanks to this forum).

She currently holds 243,6XX miles and I've been using this forum to diagnose some of the little "niggles" here and there and have to give credit to so many of the mods and vets for all the wisdom and insight!

Overall, I got an incredible deal on her. Jade green with "oatmeal" interior; both show some age: some clearcoat peeling; little dents and scratches; misc. cracks and rips in some of the leather; loose trim pieces; struts and shocks are "just for show"; various leaks and some headliner sagging...actually, maybe I didn't get such a great deal on her - LOL

So, some of the electronics were faulty and the trunk was misaligned from an interesting rear-end to the upper lid/deck.

It's a project for my son (I secretly use this car for "test driving" the issues I am working on). The intent is for he and I to turn a few wrenches on her together during summer and prep her for next school year. The funny thing is, I'm enjoying her so much I have been tackling a lot of the items on my own without him.

She's rides regally and stately even with the blown struts and shocks. The cabin is rather quiet and plush and, even with 4 blown door speakers, very fulfilling and satisfying to commute in - I try to find excuses to take her everywhere we go

We had a few hiccups with intermittent stalling which was the impetus to the CPS replacement.

I pulled the coils and saw 4/6 had oil midway up; I have a used valve cover and a set of used coils for next weekend's project.

The a/c idler is squealing upon start/warm up; I've tensioned it but believe it'll need replacement sooner vs. later.

A/C blows ice-cold; cruise control works; all windows and sunroof functional. Some of the control lights are out here and there.

Belt and hoses were done 40-50k ago per receipts and she has no CEL or other warning lights (at the moment - fingers crossed) though they all go through the start-up diagnosis and clear after just a few seconds.

I'll be hopping in and out to pilfer sage advise and tips...

Thanks all!

Heyeugenio

Welcome to the forum heyeugenio,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X300 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Please also add LOCATION details (COUNTRY/STATE/CITY) to your profile. Jaguar model specifications vary considerably around the World. T
his will help you get relevant replies and help other members know if your posts are relevant to their X300's.

Enjoy the forums.

I'm gonna guess you'll keep finding excuses to drive that car and work on it without your son (bonding experiences all) until you simply can't turn it over to him.

Only "bad" thing about that, then you'll have to get him another car for school!
But the Jag will be All Yours!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default Thanks for the warm reception

I've updated my sig to reflect my MY and model. Now it's just a matter of driving and wrenching...

I can already tell I'm going to suffer from separation anxiety; each time I drive her I'm growing fonder by each mile. It's almost as if she's a real feline; the care I put in to her, the more rewarding and receptive she becomes - and that's saying a lot because I'm allergic to cats

I have her all to myself for at least another 7-8 mos. before my son takes full ownership

At least I'll know I will have access to her for "maintenance" testing...

I can see in our Moderator Control Panel you've added '1997 XJ6L - jade green/oatmeal' as your Signature. It should appear automatically with your next post.

Thanks for adding LOCATION details. You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/ to find other members in your region.

With everything you learn on this car, you can pick one up for yourself! The satisfaction is always in driving AND owning it. Once bit, I'll bet you get another. Enjoy the ride.
