Question 1999 XK8 door won't shut/window won't drop

Hello, I'm having an intermittent problem with my driver door. This happened once before but resolved itself somehow. The issue is that the driver door won't shut, nor will the window work, it just clicks when I try to put it down. I've read that resetting the windows can often resolve the issue but since my window won't go down, this isn't an option for me. Does anyone know of another resolution?

It sounds like your door lock mechanism is sticking. Unfortunately you will need to take the door card off to get to it.
Spray some silicon lubricant into it and then operate the lock a few times.

Also make sure your battery is up to scratch.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks, Jim. Sounds like a job for the mechanic. I've had mostly Sedans in the past and while this car is gorgeous, it's full of problems! One at a time, I guess....and soon I will have them all fixed...or be broke!

It sounds like your car spent considerable time unloved and uncared for. When that happens, small problems become BIG problems. Our XK8 section can doubtless help you resolve both these problems and you'll have a Really Cool Car!

Hey mariasm,
Have you been able to confirm this fix? I just started experiencing the same exact problem last night on my '97 XK8.

Also, if anyone can offer more detail on where exactly to apply the lubricant on the door lock mechanism that would be greatly appreciated. It may be obvious once I remove the door panel but just in case.

FYI - mariasm, you were spot on with your assessment of the car... one little thing after the other seems to go wrong with this car, but thanks to this forum I am able to address most of the issues myself. And the car is beautiful so I will keep on keeping on with it.

Cool 1999 XK8 door won't shut/window won't drop

I wanted to follow up with the resolution to this. None of the easy solutions worked so I brought the car to my mechanic. Here was the assessment: Access drivers door module and test for power and ground coming to and from the door module to window motor. Voltage at drivers window motor is at 1.7v for up and down. Technician then started testing power and grounds to the door harness itself and found that we had a bad pin on the door harness for the ground circuit. Technician jumped ground and window worked properly. Ttechnician repaired ground to fix the problem. Total amount charged: $600. Now on to my every leaking gasket issue... bringing back for the third time.

$600 - Ouch!

Thanks for coming back with the resolution. It's always good to hear the end of a story.
