Default 2000 XJR Newbie UK South Coast - Greetings

I just bought a 2000 XJR with 120K on the clock. Not a minter, but I'm certainly in the honeymoon period right now - the car is lovely. I had an XJ40 a few years back, tried something different for a while, but came back to a full size Jaguar.

The car drives like a limousine...if you want. If you're a hooligan, it also caters for that!!

Looks like it means business; more power than you can shake a dyno at; interior that makes you feel special. Amazing road manners for a two tonne vehicle. Oozes style. Oodles of torque. Larger wheels are perhaps not as refined looking...but what a car.

I saw an apt description from another XJR owner recently which I liked:

It's a bit ostentatious, but I've worked hard for it.

I'd describe myself as a competent shade-tree mechanic - served my time many years ago at a Chevrolet dealership in Milwaukee.

Will try most things myself at home - but this is a complex car so I expect I'll be leaning on this forum for guidance. Always keen to pay back where I can.

Happy Motoring - Munro.

Munro - nice intro and welcome to this friendly forum.
There has been a rash of XK timing chain tensioner failures recently - I believe 2000 was the 'watershed' year when the improved tensioners were introduced.
I don't know if your engine is susceptible but the folks in your forum
XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
certainly will!

Welcome to the forum Munro,

You'll certainly find a difference in the XJR from your former XJ40. Enjoy it.

Follow Steve's link to the X308 section for help and advice. Especially check the FAQ's at the top of the threads there for known issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome to the forum Munro.

At least you have a fairly enthusiastic neighbour, if you ever need a hand.

Congratulations on the XJR.
