Default 2002 VDP Code P1384

Hello all,

I have owned my 2002 VDP for almost a month and everything has been perfect... We took it on a road trip from San Diego to Monterrey and had no issues.
Until today... I was getting on the freeway and noticed a little power loss. Then I heard a knocking noise which really stood out because the engine has been so smooth. It starts at about 2K rpm's. Got home as quick as I could and the CEL came on as I was going up my street. My oil was full at the beginning of the week with no oil leaks on my driveway or at work When I got home after the CEL and noise my oil stick was dry. There no evidence of any oil blowout underneath or up top, exhaust is dry, no explanation how the oil could have escaped. I have codes P1384, P1396 and of course P1000 ANY IDEAS, ANY HELP??!!

Welcome to the forum JZjaguar,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I see you have also posted about this issue in XK8/XKR forum. If your Jaguar is a Vanden Plas then it is NOT an XK8/XKR.

Codes P1384 and P1396 are VVT solenoid malfunction on A and B bank respectively on a V8 so your 2002 is probably a four door XJ8 (X308)? Code P1000 is a status indicating the OnBoard Monitoring Tests have not been completed since the last memory clear so someone has been working on it recently.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome.

Graham has sorted some of the issues.

Oil leaving without leaving a trail is odd at best.
