'66 E Type - Shelby powered
We have a 1966 E-Type coupe that has been in storage. It is partially reassembled after painting but we have all the parts and everything is in great condition. We were told the car was sent new directly from the factory to Shelby where it was powered with a Ford 351.
The VIN number on the door post and on the pink slip is J66IE32019.
I cannot find anything anywhere using the VIN number and I cannot find anything referencing the Shelby connection. Have you heard of this? Do you know of any resources that will help me drill down on the true history of this car?
We are ready to sell it but we want to provide an honest record of the car's origins.
Thank you!

Welcome.
The people on the E Type section may know.
Failing that, the JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust) Birth Cerificate will tell the truth, and with anything "special" that is well worth the cost in my opinion.

Welcome to the forum Bruce,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
As Grant has already mentioned, JDHT should have the information if the vehicle went directly from the factory to Shelby. If nothing else, given the chassis number, they will be able to confirm details of the original build specification.
Enjoy the forums.

V8 swaps into E-types were popular back in the day so the idea of an owner having a swap done is plausible.
The "....sent directly from the factory to Shelby...." part sounds VERY iffy to me, though.
It doesn't sound like the type of thing the factory would do, nor Shelby, what with him being neck deep in Cobra projects at the time. Plus, the 351 wasn't use/available from Ford until 1969 model year and yours is a 1966 Jaguar. The whole thing sounds fishy to me.
Don't take mine as a final word, however.
Cheers
DD
Thank you for the feedback. The more the mystery settles in, the more unlikely it seems the car was formally sent by Jaguar to Shelby for the Ford engine. I will continue to search for the answer.
Saturday I am (literally) heading down to the barn where the car is stored. Are there any other markers I should look for to help with my research? I'll take a few photos, too.
