Talking 68 XKE FHC is finally now mine

My father bought a 1968 chocolate brown (sable?) 2+2, automatic,in Philidelphia in the evening of August 4, 1969 when I was 7 years old. When I opened the garage door the next morning I was stunned. It looked like a spaceship in the garage. Id never seen a car like that before. We lived in farm country in PA, so no car looked like that in my modest town.

So, my love affair with the car began. When I got older and we migrated west to Northern Calif, I drove the car as much as my very very strict father would allow. I moved away to college, and after my brother rebuilt the engine in 1985, the car sat in my parents' garage.......until 3 weeks ago.

My aging father is not doing well, so my mother is selling the house and needed the car to be gone. I told her I want nothing else from them other than that car. You see, I could have purchased my own XKE. But I wanted THAT XKE. I told my mother I would have the car shipped to my house here in so cal. My mother told my father I was taking the car and he said "ok".

I had the car shipped and received it 3 weeks ago Saturday. I even had a Car Coming Home party at my house, attended by friends, 2 of my children and grandson. Day 1 I washed the car and cleaned it a bit and took inventory of things. And Day 2....well..believe it or not, I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel system, injected the carbs with fresh gas, installed a battery and cranked the engine. And then....oooops, I forgot...this car has a choke.... Ok. choke on. Cranked the engine and car fired up and ran beautifully.....after sitting a third of a century.

I have dialed in what I would like to do to the car by extensively researching information online. By the way, there is a Jag parts store 2 miles from my house....yippee!!

Welcome, and I can definitely see why you held out for this one. Very nice Jag, and with a little love a beautiful survivor. Congrats.
