Default About to be new X-Type owner

My old Ford Focus SVT was in rough shape with a sudden onset of massive lifter clatter last week. The body was very rough and the interior worn (I bought it, cheap, a couple of years ago). My wife pointed out that the auction house we like to frequent had a large number of cars this weekend and suggested I research them.

I ran all the VIN's and researched prices, then went to preview to look them over and listen to the engines. My wife and I were prepared to buy any car in reasonable condition that was a bargain and within my modest budget.

One of the cars was a 2002 X-Type 2.5L that looked great, the interior looks practically new and the engine just purred like the pussycat it is. When there was a single bidder at $3K my wife turned to me and said: "We can't let him get it at that price! Offer $3100 and go up to $3500."

We got it for less than our max and pick it up tomorrow!

Like any auction vehicle there are no records and I'm taking a risk, but it has worked well for me in the past.

This is our first Jag, but we both love cool cars and long-distance road trips.

Welcome to the forum WAFlowers,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

You've got the X-Type at a good price and I hope it turns out to be a good and reliable buy.

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

I know you've already found the US Lower Atlantic Region forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.

Enjoy the forums, the X-Type and the
long-distance road trips.

Graham

Good for you WaFlowers!! Glad you got a bargain. Welcome to the Forum. I love the X-Types. The good price is icing on the cake. There are many knowledgeable people who are nice enough to share what they know. Potential friends exist here, too.
Well, I am pleased to meet you. Have a great day, Louis

BTW, some of my previous cars of note are: 1997 Subaru Legacy GT2.5, 1997 Miata, the infamous Tampa Bay FrankenMiata - a mish-mash of various years including a 1.8L upgrade from the engine it came with, 2003 Honda S2000 and already mentioned 2002 Ford Focus SVT. I know how to turn a wrench; I even pulled the engine from the FrankenMiata, tore it down and sent it and the crank out for machining, reassembled it and, with the help of friends, put it back together. It ran great after that even if I did have a few leftover bits when I was done!

I've autocrossed all those cars too, although I haven't been involved with that for over a year now.

In my day job my employer calls me a Software Engineer, but my work in real-time image processing is more applied math than engineering most of the time.

A long time ago I was one of the principal software designers at QNX Software Systems. QNX is in the dash of a lot of cars these days and with the new Ford deal looks like it will take over the market.

Thank you. I'm hoping it runs as good as it looks. In my experience a car that good looking has usually been well maintained.

Yes, I've found that forum. It will be a valuable resource for me.
Enjoy the forums, the X-Type and the long-distance road trips.
We are starting to plan one or two 3,000+ mile trips for this summer. Good thing both me and the misses enjoy driving. The X will be an interesting change from driving our F350 diesel pickup pulling a 37' 5th wheel trailer! I think my wife has as many hours behind the wheel while towing as I do!
