Default Aspiring S-Type owner, LPG Automatic. UK.

Hi there,

Now that I moved to the UK its finally affordable to purchase a S-Type. I am windowshopping for one with automatic transmission and LPG fitted!

Why a Jag?
First, because they are beautiful. Second because I believe it to have at least the comfort I had with my 5 cylinder Mercedes 240 in the early 90ies. But in my home country we associate Mercedes to builders and gipsies, or politicians. And retired grumpy expats. Not my style but they do have reputation for low and affordable maintenance.
I want a quality built car to comfort and hopefully to last. I do not fancy changing a car every other year. My Cherokee lasted me almost 20 years and it was almost 10 years old when I got it.
Could go for a Volvo Cross Country, but I am not living in Scandinavia. So when in Rome...

Why an S-Type?
I would love an estate, but only X-Type would solve that. But x-type do not strike me as the real deal. Sorry x-type owners, I might be wrong there.

Why LPG?
My wallet does not stretch. My cherokee averages would jump from 18l/100 (13mpg) to 32 l/100km (7.5 mpg). I could only afford to drive it in half pray LPG, as I have done since mid 90ies

Why Automatic?
If I want sport driving, I get another Kawasaki ninja. Comfort should have automatic transmission. Plus, having the shift on the wrong place (left) and the steering also on the wrong place (right) gives me enough trouble as it is! (wink wink).

I am just hoping repairs and maintenance, living in UK, will be bearable. So here I am to ask for your precious advice!

Maybe I start with a 2002 S type, and if I am convinced, I can seek a 2008 one to keep forever...

I agree, Jags are one of the few brands that still focus on comfort. Bonus that they don't sacrifice much in the performance department. Welcome to the forums.

My Jaguar is the most comfortable car I've ever had, so I agree with you.
