Default Bought my first Jag yesterday.

I am 65, live in the UK and I retired at Christmas. I have just bought a 2003 X type 3litre V6 petrol (63000 mls) and I have a couple of questions. I test drived the one I bought and another one, but I am slightly surprised by the amount of road noise (or I think it's road noise) that both had. Don't get me wrong it's not that bad, but maybe I'm expecting too much and thought it was going to be more like a Rolls Royce? I thought being a jag it would be much quieter than most other cars, and I don't think that it's a mechanical fault (new MOT test passed yesterday) - maybe it's just me as my previous car was (or seemed) quieter?
I didn't get a hand book with the car and I am wondering about the sport button as I have not got around to pressing it yet. Does it make much difference and how much more fuel do you use, and does something light up on the dash so you know it's on or off? Thanking you all for any replies

Welcome to the forum Royston,

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues. You'll find details there on how to download Handbooks in PDF format.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the UK Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-68/ to find other members in this country.

Enjoy your retirement, the X-Type and the forum.

Graham

Hey there and welcome aboard....... good to have you here with us here at Jaguarforums

Thanks for the intro Royston.
The X type bunch will be more than happy to help with any qaustions you may have. The handbook is in the section I believe and available for download ( If you still have trouble, please just shout out and we'll assist further, no problem.

The road noise - could it be the tyres? I had some a while ago that had the "sawtooth" effect and the noise was unbelievable, might be worth checking into.

Any useful site information you may need such as how to post pictures, edit signatures, add videos,
use the search facility etc, can be found here within the following link Helpful_information

Please also take the time to check out the regional section for your area!

Hi there Jim,
Thanks for the warm welcome! I suppose it will take me time to adjust to the site as on first glance it seems a little complicated compared to the other forums I am on (different subjects). I suppose I'm still going through the "should I have bought it" interlude I notice you have a Passat and maybe that's where my uncertainty stems from. My previous car was a Passat - but it was the W8 4Motion (4ltr V8) and was exceedingly quiet and a lovely soft ride -maybe thats where I'm going wrong in comparing the two? I think when you are getting old you tend to "dwell" more on things, and as I've never had a Jag before it's hard to tell what to expect or judge if there is a potential problem. I bought it from a long established reputable garage and the car is very clean and everything works - it's just how well if you know what I mean. They gave me a 12 month warranty but on closer inspection it will only pay Ł100 per claim - which won't go very far for a gearbox/engine problem. Is there any really good warranties or is it best not to bother? Thanks again for the welcome.

Royston,

I'm less and less impressed with UK used car warranties as the exclusions seem to far outweigh the cover!

Check the HOW TO section at the top of the X-Type tech section for regular issues ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...essories-5915/ ).

If you're still unsure about reliability, post a question in the X-Type section asking for experiences and advice from other members with the same model.

Graham
