Came for help with an 88
My name is Jason. I have a 88 xjs v12. I got it not running from a guy ready to scrap it.
Current problems, aside from cosmetic
Will only crank of I jump the starter relay.
Fuel pump does not seem to be working. Briefly has a little over 3v when I turn the key on. Just me today so I cannot jump relay and check fuel voltage.
My questions are can you get a different 5 pin relay to work rather than the $70 jag one? That name tag seems a little ridiculous so I was wondering if anyone tried a generic one, as in not made for jag at all just a 5 pin relay that can handle correct volts.
And how many volts are normal at the fuel pump when not cranking just initially energized?
If I hook direct power to it I get a thunk out of it but did not want to try it longer without fuel in it. Also the car will turn and try to run off of ether when the relay is jumped. Just wanted to be sure that jumping it is not why I'm also not getting fuel before I throw money at extra parts
