Greetings from Prescott, Arizona.

I'm a long time car enthusiast who has dabbled mostly in Jeeps, Alfas, Datsuns, Miatas, Nissan Patrols, Toyota LandCruiser and American stuff.

Myself and a buddy recently purchase a 1965 Mk2 3.8S with a John's Jags Vortec V6 conversion including a 700R4 trans.

I'm getting all the bits sorted out. The quality of the wiring WAS atrocious....

Last night We lost most fuel delivery as driving.
Neither tank would get fuel to the carb.

As I see it, the fuel pump is located in the trunk on the left side?
Common failure is pump failure/bad points?

I'll begin diagnostics this morning.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've made a gallery of the Jag already.

Thanks, Pete

Hello, Pete,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar. I'm sorry it's already left you stranded.

If fuel had been sitting in the tanks for any length of time, rust may have got into the pump. Someone will be along soon to direct you to the correct section where other members can help you out with that.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks!!

I need to learn how to navigate the site.
I'm a moderator on another IB site. Cherokee Forum.

I drained the tanks down and the fuel looked great. No gunk came out at all.

It seems the pump can be repaired/rebuilt?

Or ditch the SU pump in favor of a more modern unit?

Welcome.

The SU pumps are indeed rebuildable. Been a very long time since I did one.

The MK2 section will have lots of ideas.

I am assuming the pump has power???

I can hear the pump run.

The non-factory see through filter in the engine bay hardly has any fuel in it.

I'll be back for more.

Just got it fixed!!

There was rust in the fuel lines and the engine bay fuel filter.

I located each pump in the trunk and disconnected the line to it and blew back with carb cleaner and compressed air with a clean shop rag to catch the debris. A fine rust. Kept doing that til it ran clear.
I then installed a clear plastic fuel filter BEFORE each pump and a new one up front.

Welcome to the forum Pete,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the
MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
