XK8s are a perfect candidate for recommissioning into a sports rally variant.
Currently, the 1997 Coupe is undergoing a series of tests to see just how many modules and services it can do without, and still start ( and pass smog. )
3875 pounds, less driver and fuel... here is my list of want-to-removes:
#1. Automatic Transmission ( retaining TCU for smog and anti-lock )
Yes, I've seen it done, and want a manual transmission
weight savings : 50 lbs
#2. Gearing for 150mph, 120mph is just fine. All the best roads run East to West, so we can only get up to 80 or 90mph in any event.
weight savings : 0 lbs
#3. Air Conditioning in the engine compartment ... put a dehumidifier and heater for outside air in the boot.
weight savings : 80 lbs
#4. BarcoLounger Seating. Set once mechanicals are fine. Ditch the vestigial rears, as well.
weight savings : 150 lbs
#5. 80 lbs of sound deadening and the stock exhaust ( route it out the side. )
weight savings : 90 lbs
#6. That center console.
weight savings : 25 lbs

So clearly, this isn't going to be a car for being stuck in traffic.
XK8 3,674 pounds
- 395 pounds
