Cooling System Bleeding
Hi Everyone,
First I want to express my appreciation for this extremely valuable resource. It has helped me through 3 X350's. My most recent is a 2005 Vanden Plas, now with 169,000 miles. Yesterday I had the pleasure of replacing the valley hose and have now run into a problem bleeding the system. Adding coolant as the car is warming up using the normal fill level results in the level suddenly rising as the car warms up and then overflowing the tank. Letting the car sit after shutting it off results in the coolant draining out of the tank until it is empty. I have not driven the car since changing the valley hose and the foregoing occurred idling in my garage.
Many thanks in advance for your insights

Hello, Bill,
I had a car do that once, and it was because when the thermostat opened it allowed a bubble that was hiding in the back of the block to escape and burp out a bunch of coolant. If I added coolant while the car was running and warm I could fill it. However, it was NOT a Jaguar so you might not want to try it with your car.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forums Bill,
I wouldn't use that fill technique on a Jaguar. The X350 Workshop manual specifically cautions against running the engine with the pressure cap off when doing a coolant refill.
It sounds like you are already familiar with the relevant model forum but if not, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x350-x358-28/ to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
