Default New Jaguar guy needs help!

I had a small leak in the reservoir tank that I fixed on my '07 XJ8. Now the cooling fan runs almost all of the time. Could it be that I now have the wrong mixture of coolant to water since I have topped off the reservoir tank with water on a few occasions or maybe a bad thermostat? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

robr, I would be venturing to guess that your thermostat has bound up due to the lack of coolant around it and that is causing your issues. I would recommend putting in a new thermostat and then refilling the coolant system with the proper ratio of coolant and water. It may be a good idea to do a coolant flush while you are at it to ensure you don't have any build up anywhere.

Running the coolant system low on the actual antifreeze will not cause your radiator fans to run continuously. You can run straight water and the car will run just fine. The problem comes when you get into cooler climates, if you are running pure water and the temps drop below freezing, you can crack the block really easy. Running low on actual coolant is simply raising the point at which the water/coolant mixture could freeze. But, unless you are down around 10% coolant, you don't have much to worry about unless you live in Alaska. Then, you should know better.
