Default Door module success story

My 2006 XKR convertible developed the apparently common problem of the driver’s window going down slightly when the door was opened but not returning up again when the door was closed. The only other issue was that the top operated erratically when operated with the driver’s door key. After an exhaustive search on this forum and eliminating all other possibilities I decided it had to be a bad door module. Not even wanting to know how much Jaguar would charge for a new one, I found a used one on e-bay from an identical year convertible. After installation the window worked perfectly. However, almost everything else was a disaster. The passenger’s window wouldn’t work from the driver’s side, the top wouldn’t move by using the key in the door, when trying to lower the top with the key the alarm sounded plus several other oddities. After another search on the forum I did a “hard reset” by disconnecting the battery ground and grounding the 12-volt bus for a few seconds. Like magic, everything instantly worked as it should. Additionally, the horn made a short beep when locking with the remote, which had never happened before. I thank the forum for enabling an inexpensive fix to a complicated problem, which would challenge most engineers.

Welcome to the forum Paul,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums and to hear you found helpful information to assist with the door module issue.

As you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum, there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
