Default Drop the top!

Hey everyone! I'm new here but drive a classic (almost). I have a 98 XK8 convertible and have loved every minute of it since I bought in in 2004! I've never had a problem with the top going down or coming up until just recently where the left rear glass slipped off it's lifter and fell within the wall. (my daughter was driving it)??

Anyway, she did raise the top but now when I try to lower it it seems there is something blocking the lowering and then there's silence. I think the glass may be blocking the lowering of the rail the glass should be sitting in but is now resting underneath.

Anybody ever had this happen or have a suggestion on what to do?

Welcome to the forum jagxkate,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum with this issue so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello,
I'm sorry your kitty can no longer go top down, at least until you get the jamming fixed. If there's a way to do it, the section where Graham has directed you will know.

Welcome to the forums form ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum. As GGG suggested drop by the X-100 section and get to know your jag. The top mechanism is sequential and will not got to the next step unless the last step has signaled the module that it is complete. The first step is the quarter widows lower and the micro sitch signals it is OK to unlatch the top.
Below is a thread with a lot of info to research for fixing the quarter window and make note to visit Gus's website (Jagrepair.com) and his xk8 section. He is a forum member and has a write up about the quarter windows.
