Default Finally bought a Jaguar

In 1996 I had the papers on the table to purchase a new Jaguar Vandenplas and balked at the idea since so many of my friends told me it was a mistake. I bought a Mercedes instead...What a piece of junk that was...anyway, now I am older and wiser and just wanted to see what I had missed and man have I been missing out on a great ride...but I got it now and I intend on keeping it....even if i buy the newest XF I'm looking at....My 1996 needs suspension work and I fully intend on getting the ride back to original....shocks are bad and springs sagging...not sure what shock to get yet and i'm all ears to learn any advice ya'll may have....doing the front first but I cant find an honest mechanic up here in the Detroit area to do the job....thinking about buying a repair shop...crazy...TTYL Thanks from George

Hello, George,
Friends usually have your best interests at heart, but sometimes they offer advice from hearsay and not personal experience.

When my friends first learned I had a Jaguar their comments ranged from, "nice car" to "poor reliability" to "expensive to keep." It hasn't been expensive to keep up and it's not undergoing repairs nearly as often as some of their hot new cookie cutter Detroit monsters.

Besides that, you can't go through life living by other people's opinions I discovered, and sometimes you have to balk and do what you think best. Good for you in doing so. You have discovered they were wrong, haven't you!

Welcome from ElinorB.

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome George ... and greetings from Australia;

My guess is that most of us raised a knowing smile at your eventual introduction to the Jaguar experience.
I know I did. The sounds; the smell; the style ... Hard to describe. Harder still to ignore. Just fabulous to experience.

Great advice from Graham in post #4 which will help you better enjoy all the resources and help on offer here.
Best wishes,
Ken
