Default flashing red light on shifter panel

Hello, first posting; hope it goes through; Bought a 1997 xk8 with 42k miles about 18 months ago. In good shape mechanically but fraught with electrical glitches. Chi
Georgeef among them is periodic failure to start in the morning. Battery is new and it is holding a charge. On the shifter panel near the"P" is a small indicator that flashes red and it is associated with failure to start. I've learned finally that by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a short while the engine will start.
Another glitch: When the headligt is switched to full on the dashboard lights will go off.Perhaps related to the dimmer switch?. Any help, especially on the "red light" starting would be appreciated

Welcome to the Forums.

The Members in the XK8/XKR (X100) Tech Section will have answers for the Tech bits of your post.

I re-ask in that area would be wise.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums kayaker48,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum with this question so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello,
I'm sorry your kitty has hair ball fits now and then. Doubtless members of our Xk8 section will be able to help you fix them.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
