Hello, Darren,
You don't say what model Jaguar you have, but it it's relatively newish (last 10 or so years) that red light is your anti-theft armed light. My 2009 Sonata has one too.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Darren,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

That sounds like the security sytem warning light. If so, it should go out when the alarm is de-activated.

I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

From one S-type owner to another... Welcome. The S-type forum is populated with a very friendly group and contains a wealth of knowledge.

The PATS light in the center of the dash should extinguish a few seconds after the ignition key is rotated to the "on" position. Your situation sounds "odd" and I am surprised that the car starts.

Good luck in finding the troubleshooting help you need in the forums.

JR
