Dear Friends,

I'm a member to the forum since last summer. I'm taking now the opportunity to introduce myself and express my gratitude to all of you. YOU JUST SAVE ME AND MY WALLET FOR BEEING EMPTY …….
I was always the guy who was fixing the screws but i had no idea about cars and especially mine! My profession is a Computers Salesman.A Year ago, i bought a used 2003 X-Type 2.1L Petrol Automatic 185.000Km. Three months later i had the first issues ... misfires, cruise not available, limp mode etc... Local dealer said €480.00. I said no way, and here the forum comes!!!!!! Since then i was reading the posts, searching etc.... and the result was my first repair for lower and upper intake manifold gaskets. So far so good, Driving the car for about a month i was thinking i solve the issue until i got several misfire, and restricted performance.I said ok. its not for me lets go to the dealer. Estimate: 350labour + sparks + new intake gaskets again .... + valve cover gaskets etc... etc... etc... 890.00 total. Thinking reading and searching for a weekend i said for second time NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!! I came out with parts only, some used, some broken overheated plastic connectors (I have to order replacements help me here please) and my own time within a weekend changing: 1. sparks both banks. 1a. intake gaskets was fine... but manifold screws came out with the copper thing and I had to fill the holes with plastic-metal epoxy and open new threads with helicoid thing. It works just fine. (another post helped here but I have change it a bit, I think to the better)
2. found 2 x ignition coils shorted due to the oil leak from covers (i'm not smart. i have found the pinpoint test...)
3. valve gaskets
4. 2 x injectors leaking changed and 1 x shorted (again i am not smart i found the pinpoint test) 5. oil filter change
6. breather hose change it was melted and put a nice rubber piece
7. all vacuum leaks sealed with a thin film of high temperature black gasket silicon maker (the one I use according to the WS manual to secure the gaps on valve gaskets area.
8. Cabin + Air intake filter
9. Clean MAF sensor
10. New IMT O-rings

In addition:

12 liters of Valvoline Maxlife ATF Oil used to replace the NEVER CHANGED gearbox oil with the method-empty-fill-drive-change-refill. I think it needs one more time 4-5 liters to go full clear. (I follow the forum school not the Flush gearbox school)For power steering fluid, the same. Valvoline Maxlife some leftover from gearbox + 3 liters of new until clean. Cost of each liter was €6.05incl VAT. I still have problems of heavy wheels and a strange behavior when doing a roundabout. Is like something is sucking the fluid and I have to play a bit left-right-left-right to get the turn properly. I keep reading on this…40 Liters of deionized water (8 x canisters of 5liters) to wash the water-cooling system cost €0.69 per 5liters + 10lit of Valvoline Maxlife 50-50 solution. I use the 8-9L to fill it again.2L liters of DOT4 brake fluid to change the BLACK and thin like water never changed one.I also have changed the steering wheel with one that has the audio and cruise controls!! From Ebay €32.00+18.00 postage. Not bad and is like new!! Mine was broken from sunlight.

Now Audio is working fine, cruise control needs retrofit. I have done everything (green switch, pedal harness, actuator) but there is no connector JB161 10-way Black to connect the actuator!!!! I may need you help here or if a cable missing how to find it.

That's all. I have and old cat but I think is have more to give. The previous owner was not taking care at all, but I think is in good hands now

After finish with the cruise control i must change the bearings of pulleys next to alternator, service the alternator to a specialist, change the drive belt, and adjust the clutch of the AC compressor. So I have to read more

Thanks to all of you.

Welcome to the forum Spiros,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

You have obviously already foumd your way to the X-Type forum so there is no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Europe Region forum by following this link

Good information

Do you know which type of ATF for the power steering or what type of power steering fluid is the OEM or aftermarket for my 2004 Jaguar XJ8?

A strange place to ask this question.

As you have probably already discovered, the power steering fluid specification is NOT mentioned in the 2004 X308 Owner's Handbook maintenance section. The only place I have found it for your model is in the X350 Workshop Manual:
