A gentleman's choice - greetings from Vienna!
My dear fellow Jag-Friends,
I try to keep this simple and short, hopefully, as I sometimes might be a little verbose. But, in case I fail on this, kindly ask for your forgiveness in advance...
(You know what I might mean? ;-)
So; let me briefly introduce myself and my „Dame“ to this community – I‘m not the guy who gives a name to his car, but as I‘ve seen some people do, and hence the similarity to Daimler, I might grow a habit out of it.
Sounds approbriate, in a way...
Since having read a James Bond novel as a young kid - Moonraker, I guess - where the hero was driving his Bentley and the villain a Benz, in one scene kicking an Alfa out of the road, I was sure that a gentleman would either drive a British or an Italian car, but never a german one. I did, of course afterwards, but the last ten years or so I sticked to this rule, mostly driving Alfas, but also a beautiful Rover before.
But as I didn't need a daily driver any more and switching from an sportive drive style to a more elegant one (I'm not that young any more), one year ago I finally acquired my first Jag. To be more precise a beautiful Daimler Six, Spruce green with cream interiour, and 200.000km. I shied away first from the mileage, but after a check by my mechanic and the great overall condition in combination with a very good price - well, I'm driving her since then and am still happy.
It's a 95 SWB - which I do find a bit more elegant - and with the Harman Kardon Audio as mentionable extra.
Why did I go for this specific model? First I was more into the newer 8 cylinder models, but after a while I got a tendency towards the more classic six cylinders, specifically once I saw the beautiful intarsia on the Daimlers, which I do find so absolutely gorgeous - well, sometimes it's the details...
A few additional words about myself; I live in Vienna, Austria, Europe, quite close to the castle of Schönbrunn, and now and then I make photos of nice things, in future also more of my car as well. I love music, Jazz, Blues and classic rock and work in IT.
So, here I am, hopefully finding hints and tips for these little illnesses our beautiful cars tend to have from time to time and of course exchanging ideas about driving classic british cars and the attitude that goes with it.
Looking forward to this communication!
Yours, Guenther
