Default Greetings from Indy

My name is Mark and I just purchased my first Jaguar last week, it is a 1986 XJ6.

I found this car sitting at a shop, which I deliver parts to, and asked what was going on with it. Turns out it had been in storage since 2005, unfortunately where it was stored had a problem with mice, and they proceed to do their foraging in the engine compartment and chewed up a good part of the wiring . The owner had given up on it was getting ready to sell it to a junkyard. I couldn’t bear to see this happen, so I offered him $400, and he accepted .

From what I can tell, the wiring is the only major problem. The body is in good shape with only some minor cancer below the rear window and some paint peeling off of the hood. The interior is immaculate for it age, with the exception of the wood trim.

Another problem that I am having trouble locating parts for are the door and trunk locks, it appears that someone tried to punch them out. I’ve searched the web without any luck, if anyone out there has a source for these or a good source for Jaguar parts in general, please let me know. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Mark!
I have an 87 that I'm breaking up, so send me a PM on what you need and I'll look to see if what I have is usable.

Oh...and before you invest too heavily into your car there are a few places you need to inspect. Lift up the rugs and examine the floors carefully, as they tend to rot. Look underneath closely as well. You'll also want to pay particular attention to the floor boards where the trailing arms attach from the rear end.

Welcome to the forum Mark,

Good advice there from JameyXJ6.

There were two models marketed as XJ6 in 1986 - the last of the Series III and first of the XJ40. Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for help and advice on the earlier Series III or this link XJ40 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for the XJ40. Whichever model you have, there's members with knowledge and information.
