Welcome to the forum dball,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I know you've already found your way to the S-Type tech section with the fuel consumption question so there is no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the Canada Region forum by following this link Canada - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your country.

Enjoy the forums.

Hi Den- welcome from a fellow Canadian and Ontario resident.

I see you've found your way over to the S-type section. Keep us posted on what you end up doing.

Den,

Which one are you going for - the V8 with 265K km or the V6 with 147K km?

Default bit disapointed

Morning all
Thanks for the warm welcomes
So I finally picked up my 2003 s type 3 litre (purchased privately)
I drove it the 157 km home and it performed flawlessly BUT after 50 or so kms the engine light came on for no apparent reason everything seemed fine
so I carried on after a further 30 kms I accelerated to pass and the coolant level light came on but the temp gauge was fine (dead center).
I slowed down a bit and the light went off and stayed off for the rest of the trip.
Do I have a big problem? I am just a little concerned (what to do ?)

Den,

Good to hear you picked up the S-Type and got it home.

1. MIL
Don't worry too much about this if the vehicle is running OK and not in 'reduced performance' mode. Have the codes read and post a thread in S-Type tech forum with them for advice on possible causes.

As it came on within 50Km, I suspect the PO could have cleared codes just before you collected the vehicle. A P1000 will confirm this. A P1111 will show if he didn't.

2. Coolant Level warning
Never ignore anything suggesting low coolant or high temperatures on a Jaguar V8. Overheating is an engine killer on the V8 and the temperature gauges are useless. Serious overheating can occur before the needle starts to move above normal.

What happened on the return home could be nothing more than a faulty coolant level sensor (a regular issue) or it could be a genuine coolant loss. Check the coolant is up to the base of the filler neck with the engine COLD.
