Hello All
Hello all. Long time lurker here with a 2002 X-type 2.5l with just over 80k. I've been referencing this site since the late 00s.
The car was originally purchased by my mom new in 2002. Despite being very well maintained, it lost reverse at 67k 3 years ago. I bought the car for my wife, giving my mom whatever the dealer was going to give her for it. At that point I knew even if I couldn't fix the trans, I wouldn't be into the car more than it's worth.
I read about common failures for no reverse and decided to see what the actual failure was. I've rebuilt a couple transmissions before and the common failures seemed cheap/easy to fix. Unfortunately, a piece of the clutch drum broke off and small pieces of metal dented and nicked their way through the trans.. Who knows what that did in the valve body so I found a used trans with 33k on it and installed that.

Over the past 3 years, I haven't had to do much.. Tires, brakes, front ball joint, lower/upper intake gaskets and most recently the fuel pump. The wife loves that car. It still looks great, it's a good size and does excellent in the snow/rain.
Thanks to all who have contributed to this site. It's saved me a ton of time and money.

As you've already found your way to the X-Type forum, there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
