Hello, as I states up top, I am a new member. I joined this forum because I have the opportunity to acquire a 1999 Jaguar XJ8. I am rather exited as the car itself will cost next to nothing (it's from an old friend) but also dreading the list if work it needs. Since I only dabble in cars, and am not a mechanic I'd like to know what some of the Jag owners here think.

The Work:
You'll need to buy all 4 timing chain tensioners and guides, but the chains themselves are ok. I have a special set of tools which I bought to do this job and can include them- almost $200 value.

The heads either need to be replaced or machined/ tested and some of the valves replaced. Maybe 2-4 valves per head.

I have some fuel injectors which need to be refurbished- filters, o rings etc which I have in hand.

Replace the air intake plenum, valve covers, coolant lines, breather hoses, etc. That should get you back on the road.

The auto-dimming rearview mirror failed (the LCD pack bursts when over-heated) so I paid $100 to have the mirror refurbished by a company in Michigan. That needs to be reinstalled.

I have a couple of used fog lights to put on the front- one of them was smashed.
