Default Hello From Kentucky...

Hello to all, From the day I purchased this 1957 Chevrolet 3100 Stepside pickup in 1989 while stationed in Riverside California, I always wanted to mate a Jaguar IRS into it.

So, don't boot me for not having a Jag, but at least I have the rear end of one of them.

In 2002, I found this IRS from a 1973 XJ-6 and the front suspension as well at a local salvage yard. The owner knew I was wanting to install the IRS so he called me and $325 later, a buddy and I manhandled them into the back of the truck and brought it home to get it prepped for installation.

Before they closed up shop, for the 55-57 year Chevy Trucks, I bought a rebuild kit and mounting kit from Contours West Industries, which included the cross-member, radius rods, pinion support (all adjustable), new U-Joints, brakes parts, etc, put it on the shelf and started my work on the truck. Meanwhile, I broke down the IRS and discarded the Carrier because I knew I wouldn't need it once the unit was mounted using the Kit from CWI-Inc.The tear-down of the IRS took a while using simple hand tools, but I got it done.

Nine years later, I realize running two businesses and working in public safety left me with little to no time to finish the truck so I sent it to a local shop for them to finish for me. As of today, the IRS is installed along with a Camaro front clip.

As they prep for drive train installation, paint and finishing the build, I am thinking about maintenance, alignment, repair parts procurement. I ran across this board in an internet search.

I'll be looking for a shop to do the initial alignment here in the mid-west if anyone knows of one I can take it to.

Welcome to the forums KYTruxNut,

Jaguar ownership is NOT a requirement for membership.

The Jaguar IRS used to be very popular for special builds but we hear less of them now. Probably as they become harder to find. The same basic design of IRS was used in many models and these two forums will be the most useful to you:

MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler 1955 - 1967:

XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III 1968-1992:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/

The 'HOW TO' threads at the top of each are a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also use the US Southern Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...rn-midwest-67/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Ken,
You're not the only guy who has dreamed of doing this; difference is, you've done it.
Husband collected all the parts, and there they sit.
Your installation looks like it belongs there. Good Job!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks for the info. I'll start with those and keep the group up to date on the build. Looking at maiden voyage next spring.
