Welcome Black Cat, small word. How long have you lived in Carteret. I used to work at the WIZ headquarters there. Used to run to "Burger Express" for pork roll and cheese with a coffee all the time. Is it still there? It's been years since I've been up there. I grew up in Jersey. A large part of my family is still there. Dad in Flemington, Grandma in Somerset (Franklin twnshp), and my cousin in Millstone, just to mention a few. Plan on visiting in January. Oh yea, congrats on the Jag!

I just moved to Carteret but I'm familiar with the area. Originally lived in Rahway, on the Clark border. I won't be leaving the Jag unattended on any Carteret streets for any length of time. The apartment complex I moved into is gated and there are couple more expensive cars in the complex than my X-Type so I'm not too worried.

Burger Express is still around but not in the same location. They are now on Port Reading Ave, about 1 block up from the Fire & Police Stations.

Yea, no street parking. That was the culture shock I got when I moved to Ohio..I wouldn't hesitate to park mine in any neighborhood in Akron. Even what they call bad here is a joke..Glad to see that Burger Express is still around. It was a neat family owned version of fast food. That is one of the things I miss about Jersey. Everything here is a franchise of something. These Ohioans have no clue what a real deli or pizza is...

Nice talking to someone from "home". Have great luck with that new Jag of yours.

Jeff, you wanna type about culinary depravation come to the Carolinas!! Can we say "FRIED"!!!!!!
To tantalise your pallet:
Deli: Primo's Deli http://www.primos-deli.com/ <-never go Friday at lunch 1.5 hour wait
Deli: Slymans Deli http://www.slymans.com/ BEST corned beef in the world!!!!
Deli: Corky and Lennys http://www.corkyandlennys.com/ just YUM
Pizza: Reddis Pizza & Spaghetti 15523 Snow Rd., Brookpark (westside)

For a truly enjoyable evening with live polka music (kid friendly) BIG plates of food low cost http://www.sterlescountryhouse.com/ When you go here, tell the nice German lady hostess in the flamboyant flower shirt, black skirt and black stockings, named Margot that her FAVORITE son-in-law says hello!!!! BTW her restaurant will be featured on Food Networks Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on January 11th at 10:00 PM!!!

Bon Appetite, maybe meet up with jonijoni

I've heard of Slymans corned beef.

I will concede that Cleveland does have some good places. More German and Polish than the Italian and Jewish style that predominates Jersey. But Akron is real weak.... Now that Primos link you gave sparked my interest. And I will be sure to check out your In-Laws restaurant... Thanks for the heads up!

But I still miss Jersey pizza!
