hello from newbie & brake issue
Hi, I am the owner of XF 3.0 Lux year 2010. My car has done 32K since Nov 2010. I had 2 service since, and now come to 3rd service I was told that my discs brakes and pads need to be replaced and the cost is A$2500. Is it under 3 years warrantty, does anyone know? I was told that the pads need to be changed every 10K-15K so I wondered why they did not do anything when I came to do 2nd service at 18,900Kms? I am a girl and know very little to nothing about merchanic. It would be hightly appreciated if someone could give me some advice about JG. Had driven Lexus few years back and did not encounter such regular brake pads thing need to be changed! This is very odd and new experience.

Welcome to the Jaguar world.
Nice car the XF.
I too, am bewildered by the info you have been given.
Having been the Parts Manager for a Jaguar dealer for some time a long time ago, I do know the original pads (S type in those days) are a "specific" material, that gives awesome braking at any temperature and speed, which is mainly suburban here in Adelaide, but we never saw that sort of requirement at so low KM's.
The X308 of a friend managed 45k kms on the OE pads, and he is an aggressive driver.
My wife's newly aquired 2001 S Type had the original rotors and pads replaced at 119000kms, and the XF is the S Type replacement, and I see no reason for that much of a change is specifications.
Original pads "should" last 40- 50K kms, unless you are super heavy on them.
Disc rotors these days are replaced more regularly than I have ever experienced, but I still manage to get 3 sets of pads to 1 set of rotors.
I have contacts in Melbourne if you want another opinion, but I will not post that here for obvious reasons. Send me a PM and I will assist if I can.
People ripping people off is simply Un-Australian, and they should be put down in my opinion.

I did some follow up on the price of rotors and pads for that car today at work.
A FULL set of rotors and pads would cost approx $1000. Labour would only be approx 4 hours (in a shop as versus a "homey), so based on that, approx $1500 all up.
HOWEVER, all the brake suppliers I spoke to today could see NO reason for pads and rotors at that km travelled, unless you are a "demon driver", and even then, fronts only MAYBE.
As for the suggestion to do pads at every 10-15K Kms, was just bad advice, and smelled of a rat somewhere.
