RE: Hey, Potential Jag Buyer!
Thanks for the welcome! I was wondering; Does a Jaguar engine have a distinct sound? What about the horn? I know my Grandma has a Cadillac Deville and I would know that engine from a mile away, and the horn is really low sounding; like a train horn. So in other words, what makes a Jaguar unique? Other than looks and luxury, of course.

Read till your eyes bleed in the x-type section, know what problem areas are, how to maintain her, and get an idea of the year model that you can afford...the newer the better. X-types were a new model for Jag, trying to get more of the general population into the marque, and in doing so, did alot to reduce costs. They need maintained moreso than most. If you get a good example, you should do just fine. Be well informed during your excitement.
Just my opinion here, but a used X-type would not be my choice for my teenager's first car (if I had kids). Nothing personal at all my friend, I don't know you well enough to judge your character, but most teens don't treat their car that well (engine and tranny-wise...I didn't). I've said this before, and I'll say it again, x-types that get abused in the drivetrain areas tend to fail. If you do go thru with your future purchase, please get an extended warranty, ok?

Hey Jaguar 6286.....welcome to the forum.
Gotta say you'd be one lucky fella to be gettin an X for their 16th.............take heed of the warranty and drive train issues though..........at least an 03 -4 model for a little piece of mind.
If the time coincides with Dennis's purchase you could do a lot worse .........some who cares about and for their car to a very high degree. You'd know what you were getting for your money, or rather your dads money....lol
All the best Jag6286..................feel free to read thru the forum and check out the FAQthread within the the X type section.
All the best
Jim

Welcome Jag6286!!
Jag as first car,,,,,,,envious,,, mine was 1979 Peugeot 504 Diesel, with about 180,000 miles (at least that was what the odometer read!??!).
You know how new cars come with speed limiters,?,. well that baby had one also, ,,,,never could get it to go over 65 mph
