Default Hi from down under

Just joined - I’m on the Central Coast an hour north of Sydney. 68 S-type in “rolling restoration” condition. Actually that’s been the case for the 18 years I’ve owned it. Various other old cars in various states of decay. All running… maybe not well… but all on the road.

Having a problem with a small surge in idle on the Jag… Up and down ~200rpm. Twin SU’s, recently rebuilt including throttle spindle bushes and plates. I’ve gone through and renewed all the gaskets and insulators between carb and engine so I don’t think there’s a vacuum leak there, but idle still rises and falls. Sticking piston in carb? Jet off center? My paranoia is telling me it’s a bearing in the engine. Probably just need to switch to decaf.

Hello,
All cars, no matter how old (or new), are in various states of decay!
Some merely look better (or worse) than others.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

This is not the Tech Section, BUT, Brake booster was the surge on my S type,. and the MK X. Carby piston theory, YES.

Welcome to the forums 68SType,
Very few are able to make a claim like that.
