Default Hi everyone!

Hello to all!

I've had a few Jags over the years and am in the process of buying a 1999 XKR Super convertible. Out of the Jags we've had, the early XK8/R is my favourite so excited to get another! Chain and tensioners are all done by the way. My worry is the availability of parts now if anyone can advise. I'm in East Anglia and a fast car sort of lady although I drive sedately!

Thank you for this great forum!

Welcome to the forums MrsBrianJ,

Good to have you with us. Parts availability is becoming an increasing concern with all Jaguars and not just those out of production. Fortunately the aftermarket Jaguar parts specialists in the UK can usually meet most requirements although it sometimes involves using more than one supplier to fufil a shopping list.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the welcome, the links and the advice, that's reassuring. I wondered if it was mainly an XK problem with the parts but it sounds as if not and that all older Jag owners are affected. Thank you again!

You are all so kind to make me feel so welcome, that's definitely increasing my confidence to get back into Jag ownership again, especially with an older model!

Older models are the best! You can touch everything and you can name everything you can touch.
And, if necessary, you can change single components rather than an entire electronic assembly when something goes south.

Thank you so much, that's definitely reassuring!!

We're going to get a compression test done on the engine before finalising the deal, hoping I can find some values on the forums or whether it's a case of similar compression results are more important, so much to learn again!
