Default New member- XK8 Rescue attempt...

I'm lurking here on the forum as a friend of mine has a 1999 XK8 convertible that's been sat next to a hedge for two years.

Apart from the misfire, rust and more mould than an out of date stilton, it has potential.

And thanks to this forum, I think I've managed to identify that apart from Nikasil or gearbox issues, it has just about every one of the other commonly occurring problems.

Still, it does look just fabulous, and one day it will be a classic...

If we get to it anytime soon, I look forward to posting the restoration on the forum, probably complete with a load of numpty questions. Can I say thanks in advance?

Cheers.

Sooo many Jaguars are treated like that; Dragged out of sight of the front of the house and forgotten.

We don't mind questions here, most of us have asked our share.
Welcome to the forum from ElinorB.

Hi and welcome!! I just purchased a 1999 XJR that is needing attention as well. Glad to see I am not alone in wanting to put some time and effort into one of these jags.

Welcome OddJob2000,
Good luck with your project. Nice to hear she's found a good home and not going to the wreckers.

Default Great welcome!

I've been around the Internet since 1995, and never have I received quite such a warm welcome to a forum!

An update... I now need to find a trailer and move the XK8 out from under the hedge, and temporarily onto my driveway whilst I try and empty a garage for it. Proper size pic attached here too.

I think I've got the car added to the garage right, and have added it to my avatar and signature.

I'm now looking forward to getting on with it.

Cheers all.

Pleased to hear it. We try to be a friendly group.

Quite a build up of moss on the passenger door. That should clean of easily but the hood could have suffered more permanent damage.

The XK8's throw all kinds of strange codes and error messages with a low charge or failing battery so it's worth getting a good one on before troubleshooting.

Thanks for the kind words oddjob, as Graham says, we do try to keep things as friendly as possible here.

Funnily enough, that's the sort of challenge I love , went through a similar process with the boys' Clios when they got them, a little neglected, dirty etc

The good thing is for very little money, just elbow grease, a few products and more than a few hours, an amazing transformation is possible.

Why not start an "XK8 rescue attemp" thread in the XK section?
You can then posy into this with each and every detail as you clean, repair, replace etc.

It'll then be your XK8 thread showing before, during and after

I love to check in on these type of threads

Good luck
