Default hi im new to the foums

i am mark, i have never posted on a foum before, so im not use to this. i am in need of some serious help with my x type. i need it up and running asap. i suspect ecm, tcm, or possibly the j-gate. its a 04 x type 3.0 automatic, it has the engine compartmen fuse box like the o5, no crank, no click, shifter interlock solenoid isnt working, no lights on gear indicator or s switch. showing gearbox fault, i have already put a new interstate megatron battery, new starter, cleaned and check all battery cables. and ground connections. the fuses are all good. relay for the starter is non serviceable. i already tried the fuel pump safety switch, i removed the ecm, tcm, and no sign of water. the security light stays on and doesnt blink when key is on. codes 1638, 1643, 1699, with obd 2 scanner. the brake lights are working im pulling my hair out

Welcome.

The X Type Tech section is the place for this question.

This Intro section is not visited by all the members.

No starter activity, even a click, is nearly always the neutral start circuit/switch/whatever, that is stopping the current flow. This applies to any car, not just Jaguar.

I do know that if the "P" does NOT light up, the starter, she no work.

Hello, Mark,
I'm sorry your car is giving you such fits! Doubtless our X-type section can help you with all that. Someone will be along shortly to direct you there.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

yes that is true, but i think the ecm has it shut down, where everything is hooked to the computer, so anything can shut it down. even the ecm could be bad. this car is a wiring nightmare. it will leave if i get it running.

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your having troubles. Following this link to the X400 section and please repost the info about your problem.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/

Basically the codes are telling us it is a CAN BUS problem and the ecm, tcm and ccm are not communicating.

Please provide a bit of additional information:
Did you inherit this way?
Has it ran before?
Do you have a KNOWN correct key?
What other work has been done to the car. E.G. instrument cluster, J-gate, transmission repairs?

We can help you sort it out.

Welcome to the forum Mark,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

ECM failure on a Jaguar is a rarity. Failed interlock solenoids and battery cables breaking up at the vehicle end (not at the battery terminal connections) are regular issues.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Mid Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-mid-atlantic-65/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

the car ran good, i washed the engine, the next day it was misfiring on #1 so i drove it a couple hours to dry it out. it ran fine and no codes and the misfire went away. i turned it off and it wouldnt crank back, it says gearbox fault. the only other work i did to the car before was a thermostat and water pump. the water pump was leaking. the thermostat stuck open

Mark,

I recommend you post the situation so far in X-Type forum for advice from members with the same model. Lots of members view Intro's but few come back to them again after first reading or replying.
