Default Hi from London Uk - bought a 98 XK8

So far so sweet - such a beautiful car - already worried about the tensioners that everyone mentions here ... i did ask the previous owner - he said they must have been done as the car has Full Jaguar History and has covered 147 000 miles - how do u tell if they have been done?
Anything you guys recommend i do/check straight away?
Everything seems to work, i drove it 130 Miles home from the seller with no problems.
1st Gripe is the pretty average in car entertainment - seven speakers but not such a quality sound IMO.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys?
Any in the London UK area?
Cheers.

Welcome to the forum LondonXK8Boy,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Tensioner replacement is not a scheduled or recall task so unless it appears on a Jaguar invoice in your full service history, it probably hasn't been done. The only way to be sure is to take the cam covers off and have a look.

Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK Region forum by following this link UK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in this country.

Enjoy the forums.

Oh i should have mentioned it is dual fuel and runs of L.P.G. as well as petrol.
I'm thinking of having it decarbonised next Monday - just as i guess it has never been done and a suitable agent is close by.
It's MOT is due in 3 months so want to slowly prepare it.
I will have a look at that link to check the tensioners.
Thanks.

I can't think of any other members running dual fuel XK8's but we do have members running dual fuel X308's with the same engine so no reason to expect any issues with this setup.

Remember you can put the car in for an MoT 28 days before the expiry date and effectively get a 13 month test if it passes. If the worst happens and it does fail, this gives you extra time to get it fixed before the current test expires.

Default Re The LPG system

I was moving up from a Merc C240 with LPG so seeing as it saves a fortune i was keeping an eye out for any XK8 with LPG - i could only find two - both identical - one of the guys selling the XK8 was willing to take my C240 as a p/x.
I can already say it's the most beautiful car i've ever had.
I'm on the lookout for an Independent XK8 Mechanic/Specialist in London now.
Yes i'll get the MOT test done a month in advance. Just to be on the safe side.
Cheers

Can u believe i got my 1st Restricted Performance msg come up already? It came on - it goes away, comes back etc - no difference i could notice in performance - when i could i opened it up a bit and seemed normal - i'll know more tomorrow - i have it booked in for a decarbonisation on Monday and will take it to a nearby Jag Specialist/Independant when i figure out exactly where one is - (West London UK)

There's a thread in UK Region forum about Jaguar Specialist/Independent in West London:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...london-104125/

DTC's are always the first step in troubleshooting these cars. If you get the codes read, post the actual codes (not the description) for more help.
